The Other Side of COVID-19

Are you ready?

I have been noticing some old patterns and behaviors in my community rearing their ugly head.  Since COVID-19 numbers are dropping and vaccines are increasing I have recognized that things are speeding up in an invisible race to some sense of normal. Will those of us not willing to reboard the crazy train be left behind? Traffic has catapulted into an unrecognizable barrage on our highways and neighborhoods.  The brutality of impatience has me retreating to rationing and strategically planning errand outings. What happened to “this time has really made me realize what is important”?

Moving into this new phase I am being mindful of a few things.  One, I do not need to catch up with everyone else. Where I am is enough and I am happy to take my time getting to know this new landscape. Two, my health and sanity outweigh the rush to what was. I am slowing down, paying attention, and having a fresh perspective toward my reborn work life.  In my practice, I will be seeing less people and charging a bit more. I want to build a more authentic practice for me and my patients. Three, this is the Metal Ox year. It is meant to be slow, steady, and self-reflective. I will take my time re-building my life and slowly move toward tolerance of all people, in all places in this process of recovery. Being mindful, self-accepting, and grounded in my truth, I can support my community by meeting them wherever they are at. The lessons I have learned this past year will not go to waste and I will organically move toward a brighter future.

Here are a few tips to keep you grounded as we move out of COVID-19

  1. Stay hydrated. We are moving more and some of us are exercising again. Staying hydrated can prevent headaches and drops in energy.

  2. Take it slow. Manage your time in a way you are not filling every second of the day.  Allow for gaps and make time to rest and do “nothing”.

  3. Be patient. Do not push yourself or others. We are all operating from a different set of circumstances. Make more time to do errands and getting places will allow for more patience.

  4. Re-think your work schedule. Those that have the luxury to create space in their schedule to process the day should take that opportunity.  Your clients will thank you for it!

  5. Journal. Starting a new journal with your reborn goals and needs can help in the process of reentering post covid.
